Top 10 Fresh Fruit Salad Suggestions!

pretty healthy fruit salad

Hey, guys! Thanks for stopping by! If you haven’t seen my post about 31 simple fresh fruit salad suggestions, then I will explain to you what I am doing, or at least trying to do. 🙂 In the previous article I selected 31 beautiful, easy to make and healthy fruit dishes from different food blogs and sites. I just listed them, I didn’t rank them. Now I picked up the very best 10 out of those 31 masterpieces and I would love to show them to you!

Two things you need to be aware with:

1. It wasn’t easy at all! I mean, just look at those fruit salads and try to select the best 10 yourself. You will see how difficult it will be. Because each one of them is:

  • Pretty looking
  • Fresh
  • Interesting
  • Easy
  • Healthy
  • Delicious

2. This is MY ranking. I am sure if you do your own, it will look a little bit different. It is all based on my personal taste. That is why I highly encourage you to write in the comments below which fruit salad deserves to be on first place, according to your opinion. I am very interested to find out what other people think.

I want to give you a hint about the first place salad. It is something really simple. There are actually other fruit salads, which are much richer and juicy and mouthwatering…But the idea of that salad, I loved it! It is so simple, so genius and the best part of it is that you could use that idea in other dishes…

Ok, enough with the talking! I am showing you the ranking. Sit back and enjoy!

Star Spangled Fruit Salad from A Family Feast

top 10 fresh fruit salad - watermelon blueberries

I chose this salad to be in the first 10 because of the idea. Look at the presentation. Doesn’t that look unique? I mean, if you place that on the table, your guests, your children (or whoever!) will immediately start staring at it, without any doubt.  It just looks interesting, original and creative. The colors of the watermelon pieces and blueberries make a beautiful contrast and the forms “play” with each other. I haven’t tried that combination yet, but I don’t know why, I have the feeling it CAN’T NOT taste good.😀 Watermelon tastes amazing. Blueberry tastes amazing. So watermelon and blueberry will also taste amazing. Simple logic…

I think you could form stars also with other fruits. Here are 3 examples:

  • Melon
  • Dragon Fruit
  • Mango

I got another idea, when I saw this fruit salad. We all know how well watermelon goes with cheese, especially with mozzarella. Therefore you could replace the blueberries with little, delicious pieces of mozzarella. It won’t be a real fruit salad anymore, but still it is a great idea, I think…

I really hope this salad inspired you like it inspired me!

Ambrosia Fresh Fruit Salad from I Wash You Dry

top 10 fresh healthy fruit salad ambrosia

What is a top 10 fruit salad ranking without an Ambrosia Fruit Salad? “Sweet smelling”, “delicious”, that is what Ambrosia means, at least according to the articles about the history of Ambrosia salad. It is said, that Ambrosia is a substance, eaten by the Gods of Greek mythology. When they ate Ambrosia, they became strong and immortal.

So what is actually Ambrosia Fruit Salad? It is basically a salad, made of:

  • Mandarin Orange
  • Marshmallows
  • Whipped Cream
  • Sugar
  • Coconut

But that is, as I said “BASICALLY” 😀 Nowadays there are many different variations of Ambrosia salad. In this case, the salad I chose for my top 10, the ingredients are more than delicious:

  • Mandarin Orange
  • Green Grapes
  • Strawberry
  • Pineapple
  • Instead of sugar there is Greek Protein Vanilla Yogurt
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Whipped Topping

I think the Ambrosia Fruit Salad is so popular, because it is a very good replacement of the ice cream. It is sweet, but not so rich in calories. So, if you want to cheat, make yourself one big, fat, tasty Ambrosia Fruit Salad, top it with some honey and be happy! 🍧🍨🍦

Spicy Fruit Salad from Minimalist Baker

top 10 fresh healthy fruit salad spicy

First I want to make a notice: I am not making any advertisement of Minimalistbaker, but I just MUST admit: I admire them so, so much! They give great attention to little details and present their dishes in a very elegant and also professional way. I just sit and stare at their photos, with mouth wide open…😃 That is why I just couldn’t skip their fruit salad, I HAD to include it in my Top 10 Fresh Fruit Salad Suggestions.

It is a very original fruit salad. Definitely not suitable for everyone. Very specific. With Chilli…I know, I know, that sounds so weird. But weird recipes turn out to be one of the best recipes ever! (Ok, maybe not all of them…😁 ). For me, personally, this fruit salad deserves to be seen by more people. There are lots of crazy guys out there, who love to combine sweet with salty with spicy…with everything! I am one of those guys 🙂

Fresh Fruit Salad with Thai herbs from 101 Cookbooks

best fruit salad top 10

If I had to describe this fruit salad with one word, it would be BEAUTIFUL. It is just beautiful. That kind of salad inspires me to eat healthier, to prepare my meals more carefully, to present them in a beautiful way and to enjoy them slowly. Heidi says you could choose any kinds of fruits, but I personally think the ones she has chosen match perfectly the whole thing. The fruits in her salad are:

  1. Blackberries
  2. Cherries
  3. Nectarines
  4. Loganberries
  5. Pluots
  6. Peaches

That is just a magical combination. Actually if you mix juicy peaches and nectarines with different types of berries, you will achieve that same end-result.

More interesting than the fruits themselves are the other ingredients. Lemongrass, Lemon and lime juice, honey, vanilla, salt, mint, toasted walnuts, yogurt, toasted coconut, dollops of creme fraiche…If you serve your fruit salad with all that, you can be proud of yourself!

Pina Colada Fruit Salad from Averie Cooks

top 10 fresh healthy fruit salad strawberry grapes

I really like fruit salads that are juicy and satisfy your thirst. Because think about it: when is the time you are thinking about a big fruit salad? When it is hot outside, you are walking, you are thirsty and you feel you need something very, very fresh and juicy. At least that is in my case. During the summer I eat fruits for lunch. It just happens that way: I am outside, I am very hot and thirsty. At that time I see the heavy meals as something disgusting. Hamburger? Oh, God, keep that away! I am thirsty! 😁 Please, give me a big, juicy peach!

For that reason I decided to place the Pina Colada Fruit Salad in my Top 10 Fresh Fruit Salad Suggestions. Everything about this salad is grate, except…the non-alcoholic pina colada… 😜 Maybe because I am still breastfeeding and I am not allowed to drink alcohol, I desire it so much! 🙂 But you could experiment with the ingredients, depending on the occasion, I guess. If you make that salad for your children, you add non-alcholic pina colada. If you are making a nice dessert for your guests (who are adults and aren’t breastfeeding:)), you add some alcoholic pina colada. Isn’t it beautiful? To get drunk with a fruit salad? 😂

Mixed Berries Fruit Salad from Life Made Sweeter

top 10 fresh healthy fruit salad lots of berries

This salad says it all: You mix as many berries as you can and you get the best fruit salad ever! Hah 🙂 But seriously, berries are one of the best fruits for fruit salad and you can’t make a mistake with them. I think the most magical thing about Berry Salads is that you can eat them with a spoon. 🙂

Making a Berry Salad is one of the easiest things on planet. Buy the berries, wash them, mix them in a big bowl and add some cool stuff like honey, lemon juice, lemon zest, some seeds and you’re done! Soooo delicious! 😋

Amazing Mohito Fruit Salad from Iowa Girl Eats

blueberry raspberry watermelon fresh healthy fruit dish

It is getting better and better! I can’t even tell you how pleasant I find it to write about so pretty and tasty fruit salads. It is 19.30 right now  here in Bulgaria, my son sleeps on the balcony (I am not joking!), the news are running on the tv and I am looking at these mouthwatering pictures of amazing salads…Let me tell you something: I am hungry! 😃

Now, take a look at this beauty above. Mohito Fruit Salad. Could it be fresher than that? Mohito is the drink I associate with long summer nights, parties at the beach, when I was young and wild. 😉 I mean, Mohito is the best summer drink ever! And to have the opportunity to bring that feeling into a simple fruit salad, that is happiness!

How do you make a Mohito Fruit Salad? It is quite simple. You just mix some summer, juicy fruits with the 3 basic ingredients of the Mohito. You know them, right? 🙂 Here, just in case:

  1. Mint
  2. Lime Juice
  3. Brown Sugar

I know, I know. I am missing the most important ingredient: white rum. But in this case the recipe is non-alcoholic. Don’t you worry! You could fix that problem! 😆

Monochromatic Fruit Salad from A Cup Of Jo

top 10 fresh healthy fruit salad with berries and figs

So, we got to the third place! Do you want to know why I chose this fruit salad to be so close to the winner? Because the article is called Top 10 Fresh Fruit Salads. The summer salads are the freshest salads ever. And one of the most delicious summer fruits is the fig. That is why I chose this salad: because of the juicy, tasty figs, mixed with so many berries. I love dark fruit salads. Black, dark blue, dark red, with a lot of juice…They are very similar to the jam texture, you could grab a spoon of this salad and smash it on a slice of bread. Here you go. You got a natural and healthy jam on bread. Isn’t that the perfect summer breakfast?

#2

Berry Watermelon Fruit Salad from Fork Knife Swoon

blueberry watermelon cherry fruit salad top 10

Second place! Watermelon Berry Fruit Salad! You know already I have a weakness to dark fruit salads :). I really loved this one, because it is super, super simple. There is no dressing here. (Ok, a little bit of lime juice, but actually I would skip the lime juice and just leave it with the fruits. I don’t know, I think they are juicy enough).

But there is one very big BUT here: it is extremely important that the watermelon and the berries are ripe. Because if the salad is not sweet enough, it’s going to loose all the taste.

I liked it how Laura presented the whole recipe, I mean the article is very interesting and emotional, you could take a look at it.

Chile Lime Melon Salad from Smitten Kitchen

top 10 fresh healthy fruit salad with lime melon chili

This is it! The first one! The very best!

Actually I wouldn’t say it is the best fruit salad. As I explained at the beginning, there are lots of fruit salads, which taste delicious. But this salad inspired me the most with its presentation. The idea of cutting the fruit that way, like little ice cream balls, it is just so gorgeous and most importantly: so easy! And if something is super easy and gorgeous at the same time, that means it is genius, am I right? Simple logic again. 😀

This fruit salad is sweet-salty-spicy, something similar like the one from Minimalist baker (the idea for chili in the fruit salad is similar). You know that cheese matches very well melon and watermelon. I won’t give my full review now, because I am going to make a single article only about this beautiful salad recipe! I will share on my social media, when I have it done and then comes the most interesting part of the game…I am going to make my own version of this number one fruit salad and I am going to show it to you! I am really excited how I am going to take this recipe further…Great inspiration!

Check out these 54 super healthy fruit dishes!

fresh healthy strawberry summer dish

Hi, everyone! Let me introduce you some good stuff! I found these over 50 healthy fruit dishes, which I think are very suitable for the summer. (Ok, maybe five of them are more typical for the winter, but all the rest..:)) Most of the recipes are really simple and you could try them at home. I would definitely recommend you experiment with the fruit dish recipes, try to combine different ideas and to add your own taste to the dish. Because what is the point of making homemade, if it doesn’t contain a little piece of the imagination of the author? Cooking and preparing tasty food isn’t about copy-pasting a recipe we saw in a food blog, it is much more about getting inspiration and then turning that inspiration into something new and unique. That sounded so deep…

So, let’s leave the philosophy of cooking aside and focus on these 54 beauties! I am very interested to find out which ones you loved the most?

Speaking about pretty cool fruit dishes, maybe you would like to check out also my post about the 11 best fruits for fruit salad. As Diana Johnson from EatingRichly said about that post, there are “lot’s of yummy options here” 🍒🍍🍏

11 best fruits for fruit salad: with examples!

healthy fresh fruit salad

Maybe you want to make a nice fruit salad and you are asking yourself: “How could I make the best fruit salad? Which fruits should I choose?” Actually it is not easy to find the best fruits for fruit salad. Most of the fruits could be suitable, depending on what they are combined with. But there are some fruits, which are meant to be the best. I don’t know why, seriously. They are the most used fruits, when it comes to fruit salad. And if people use them the most, that means they are the best fruits for fruit salad, right? 🙂

One important note before showing you the list. The fruits are not competing, this is not a rating from 11 to 1 or reverse. That means that number one fruit isn’t better than number eleven fruit. They all are used very often in fruit salads and they all are very combinable with other ingredients.

So, are you ready for the big 11? Sit back and enjoy the material! I found also amazing recipes, which I am giving you as examples to each fruit. They are so, so, so good!

P.S: Don’t forget to vote at the end of the article. We ask you…let me surprise you!

Best fruits for fruit salad:

1.Raspberry

best fruits for fruit salad - raspberry

Raspberries are one of the favorite fruits of most of the people. Maybe because they are not so easy to find like other fruits like apples for example. They are easy to digest and give some extra softness to the taste of the salad. Take a look at these 3 examples for fresh and healthy fruit salad with raspberries:

Raspberry Mango Fruit Salad from Aeroplane Jelly

Raspberry Watermelon Mint Fruit Salad from PaleoLeap

2. Blueberry

best fruits for fruit salad - blueberry

Very similar to raspberries: harder to find, more expensive, super easy to use, light ans uncomplicated fruit, which fits almost in every fruit salad. Blueberries also make an amazing contrast in the color texture, because most of the other fruits are bright. Two simple and cool recipes for Blueberry Fruit salad here:

Blueberry Strawberry Coconut Fruit Salad from VegetableGohan

3. Strawberry

best fruits for fruit salad - strawberry

Perhaps you were expecting this fruit to show very soon in the listing…:) After the raspberries and blueberries come very logical the strawberries. Actually if I had to determine only one fruit to be the best for fruit salads, this would be “Berries”. They are many fruit salad recipes, which include only berries and nothing else. Could you imagine: a big bowl, full of all kinds of fresh, juicy berries…Heaven!

I found for you 3 easy, fresh fruit salads with strawberries. Check them out:

4. Watermelon

best fruits for fruit salad - watermelon

Watermelon is one of the fruits, which are often used in salty salads as well. You know the epic combination: watermelon, feta cheese and mint, right? This is maybe the best of the best fruits salads in a hot summer day. Watermelon could also be used as a basket , where you put other fruits. There are many variations for cutting and presenting watermelon. It is meant to be a kind of art: cutting watermelon.

I chose 4 tasty, juicy fruit salad dishes with watermelon:

Watermelon Cherry Raspberry Mint Fruit Salad from Taste

5. Melon

best fruits for fruit salad - melon

Melon is similar to watermelon in the way it could be presented: as a basket with fruits. But its taste is quite different from watermelon’s taste. Choose Golden Honeydew Melon if you want to enjoy a very healthy fruit meal. The best about the melon is that it is a filling fruit, not in the bad way. Put more from it in your summer fruit salad and you won’t feel hungry for the next couple of hours.

Take a look at these two beautiful suggestions for a healthy, fresh fruit salad with melon:

Melon Fruit Basket from SweetSpicyKitchen

6. Cherries

7. Grapes

best fruits for fruit salad - grapes

You know, grapes is a very special fruit: the fruit of the Gods..But to fit well in your fruit salad, it should be sweet. The sweeter the grapes, the better the salad, keep that in mind. You could also mix different types of grapes in order to give your fresh fruit salad a richer texture.

These two fruit salad recipes with grapes really inspired me:

Grape Salad from KitchenNostalgia

Grape Blueberry Fruit Salad from EatingRichly

8. Mandarin

best fruits for fruit salad - mandarin

Lovely fruit, easy to find. Mandarins suit best in fruit salad, while oranges are very often included in salty salads, because of their sour flavor in the taste. Mandarins are sweeter than oranges and are more acceptable from sensitive stomachs.

I found the following 3 fruit salads to be the best examples for a mandarin fruit salad:

Mandarin Apple Banana Fruit Salad from OfficialTashika

fresh fruit salad with mandarins

Get the recipe from officialtashika.com.

Mandarin Pineapple Blueberry Strawberry Salad from JuliesEats&Treats

9. Banana

best fruits for fruit salad - banana

Surprisingly or not, bananas are not so often being used in fruit salads. Do you know why? Because they are so damn easy to be eaten right away! Just grab a banana and you’re done. 🙂 Why would you ever need to make your life more complicated??

That was a little joke. (I am so funny! :)) Bananas are actually a preferred fruit, when it comes to healthy fruit dishes. They are the “balance guy” in salads that contain too much of sour fruits like apples, oranges, kiwi etc.

10. Fig

best fruits for fruit salad - fig

Fig is a fruit, which deserves so much more appreciation than it actually receives! It is not as popular like pineapple, kiwi, oranges, bananas (should I go on?), but all fruit salad lovers are very familiar with it and know how to use it. The next 3 examples are really good, they give you ideas of how you could combine a specific fruit like the fig:

11. Nectarine

best fruits for fruit salad - nectarine

If the mandarin is a sweeter variation of the orange, nectarine is a sweeter alternative to peach. Peach is also a sour fruit, not that mandarin and nectarine aren’t, but they are a little bit sweeter. You could make very cute salads with nectarine, here is one recipe:

I know you are asking yourself some questions right now: “Why not kiwi? Why not pineapple? Why not pear and apple?” These fruits are very suitable for salty vegetable salads, that is why I decided to leave them for another listing. Of course, everybody has his own favorite fruits and  ideas for healthy and fresh fruit salads. But these 11 are one of the best fruits for fruit salad.

Thanks for stopping by and see you next time;).

Broccoli bacon salad: the very best ideas!

broccoli bacon salad on a celebration

Broccoli bacon salad…is that even a salad? 🙂

Although many of you think salads should be really that, I wouldn’t agree…Yes, the main idea of a salad is to be light and to contain fresh veggies. The salad should be an “invitation” to eating. 🙂 But nowadays salads take a much bigger part of our daily menu. There are several reasons for that:

  1. We now live in a global world, a global market, where we have access to all types of products and ingredients. The variety is so big, that we start experimenting more and more with veggies, exotic fruits, dressing, sauces, cheeses etc. That is how the diversity of salads expands and gives birth to salads that are filling and could replace a whole meal.
  2. People start to care more about their bodies and mostly about their health. We all believe now that our physical condition forms our lifestyle, our experience in daily life. We try to do more sport and eat fresher foods.

I think both these things are great. There is nothing wrong in having a big, tasty, filling and at the same time fresh salad for lunch, right?

Because I truly love filling salads, I wanted to select the best broccoli bacon salads I found in my research. For each salad I will give you the author name, a brief description of the ingredients and a little comment. Enjoy this material!

The 5 best suggestions for broccoli bacon salad

  1. Classic broccoli salad recipe from Chef Julie Yoon

This super easy broccoli bacon salad contains a couple of main ingredients:

  • Broccoli
  • Bacon
  • Red Onion
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Nuts
  • Dressing with mayonnaise

Just go to the shop, get these things and you will have the basic version. If you want to play around a little bit, add some garlic powder, honey, kosher salt and white wine vinegar to the dressing. I guarantee you will fall in love with this broccoli bacon salad!

Take a look at the salad here.

2. Broccoli bacon tomato salad from Mr Food

This version is suitable for people who don’t like fruits and nuts in salads. This is a very salty salad that Mr Food presents to us. Main ingredients are:

  • Broccoli
  • Bacon
  • Tomatoes
  • Red Onion
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Mayonnaise dressing

It is fatty, salty, filling and super yummy salad. I think men would prefer it, because it goes great with alcohol. I wouldn’t say it is a diet salad, but actually if you eat it instead of dinner it is ok.

If you want to take a look at this broccoli bacon salad, you are welcome. 🙂

3. Broccoli bacon salad from Cinnamon-Spice & Everything Nice

This salad is something very similar to the broccoli bacon salad from Chef Julie Yoon, just the dressing is a little bit more simple:

  • Broccoli
  • Bacon
  • Nuts
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Red Onion
  • Mayonnaise Dressing

You could use raisins instead of dried cranberries, depending on what you find in the shop. Raisins are usually more popular and you can get them from any grocery shop or even supermarket. Here is the salad.

4. Broccoli bacon cauliflower salad from Mr Food

Mr Food is really good at making broccoli salads. Here is another interesting idea from his kitchen. This time it is a fresher, lighter version. Again there are fatty things like mayonnaise, cheese and even sour cream, but there are also more veggies:

  • Broccoli
  • Bacon
  • Red Onion
  • Pepper
  • Cauliflower
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Mayonnaise
  • Sour Cream

Really amazing broccoli bacon salad, it is a perfect combination of “healthy” and “delicious”…

Mr Food Broccoli Tomato Salad with Mayonnaise Dressing

mr food salad with broccoli

Mr Food broccoli tomato salad is the last salad from my broccoli salad collection. I have showed you already several pretty good variations of this well established and absolutely amazing combination of ingredients. One of my favorites are the broccoli raisin salad again from Mr Food and the Pioneer Woman broccoli salad with bacon and carrots. Why? Because first of all I love dried fruit in salads (also the classic broccoli salad from Chef Julie Yoon is pretty good – with dried cranberries) and secondly I love broccoli, mixed with carrots. But of course it all depends on your personal taste, so you can just go the broccoli salads category and choose the best salad for your taste: there are some with roasted nuts, some with different types of cheese, etc.

Mr Food broccoli tomato salad is the very basic option of the Broccoli Bacon Cheese Salad

Although there are many variations of this salad, the very main ingredients are no more than five: broccoli, red onion, bacon, cheese, mayonnaise. Because tomatoes are very often included to this combination, we could say this particular broccoli salad shows the very basics. You could replace the sugar with honey to make the dressing a little bit healthier. But have in mind, that it has to be real honey…

One more thing: don’t try to replace the bacon with chicken pieces. Not that chicken doesn’t match broccoli and mayonnaise, but bacon and broccoli are proven to taste best of all other meat-broccoli combinations. If the bacon is grilled, smoked or baked to crispiness, then you got it!

Mr Food broccoli tomato salad is suitable for big celebrations, because it doesn’t appear to be a well known and “boring” salad. You could definitely surprise your guest with this explosion of tastes. Of course you could prepare it also on a lazy Sunday afternoon, when you want to spent some time with yourself or with your family – just to have something delicious on the table.

Classic broccoli salad recipe from Chef Julie Yoon

recipe for classic broccoli salad
Hello, dear broccoli salad lovers! Thanks for stopping by to check what kind of salad I am showing you today. You guessed it: classic broccoli salad. What means actually a classic broccoli salad? Which are the ingredients and how do you prepare it?
I chose to show the version of classic broccoli salad from Julie and her husband’s website Chef Julie Yoon, because I find it very inspirational. Not just the salad, but also the whole process of doing it, the photos (and also the behind the scenes material), it is all very professional and inspiring as well.
Maybe you have noticed, if you are reading my other posts for salads, that I am making a collection of all variations of the very famous broccoli bacon cheese mayonnaise salad. It’s quite amazing to see how similar and at the same time how different those salad recipes are. There are variations in the dressing: some make it from mayonnaise and Greek yogurt, others mix mayonnaise with sour cream, some authors don’t even make a dressing, they just pour the mayonnaise on top of the broccoli and toss well. Some use honey, others – sugar, some prepare the dressing with apple vinegar, but I’ve seen it also with wine vinegar (like here in this classic broccoli salad).
The nuts, that they add to the salad, can variate too. You could actually mix any kind of nuts, it is better that you roast them and take off the skin.
What else comes to the broccoli bacon salad? Many times there are dried fruit: fried cranberries or raisins.
Red onion is always there, mixed with the broccoli and bacon. It isn’t necessary to add Cheddar cheese to the salad. You could add also feta or just skip the cheese, if you want to make a lighter version, not so rich in calories.
What you could add is more veggies: spinach, cherry tomatoes would do well. But that is not the case with this salad. So let’s get directly to the main question:

Which are the main ingredients of the classic broccoli salad from Chef Julie Yoon?

Julie keeps it simple, she keeps it classic. 🙂 The only vegetables she uses are the basic one: broccoli and red onion. And that is actually the real broccoli bacon salad.

What comes next? Crispy bacon pieces and dried cranberries. Until now we have veggies, meat, fruit and now come the nuts: she chooses cashews for her salad, but as I said you could experiment with your broccoli salad recipe and add any other type of nuts you want. Be creative!

Finally, the dressing for the classic broccoli salad: it is also the basics: mayonnaise, sugar (honey optional), wine vinegar, garlic powder and kosher salt. I forgot to tell you, that garlic powder is also a proven partner-ingredient to the broccoli bacon salad.

If you are interested to see the full version of the recipe: shown with amazing pictures and video, follow this link. Take a look at my quick summary of the classic broccoli salad when you just need the basic information.

Have fun in the kitchen and don’t forget to share your experience in the comment below!

Avoca broccoli salad recipe from Bibliocook

avoca broccoli salad recipe

It is time for some beautiful and delicious layers, what do you say? 🙂 Maybe the most good looking salads in the world are those with layers, because they achieve the effect of the rainbow. Each ingredient adds a color stripe to the plate and together all the ingredients form an explosion of “organised” colors. That is why they appear to look so stunning. One more cool thing about salads with layers is that you can see very easily the ingredients. When they are all mixed up, you get kind of confused about what is it there in the salad. So, layer salads really rock!

I am going to give you a very good example for such a salad. The recipe comes from a website, called Bibliocook, the author is Caroline. She shows something delicious, easy to make and simply amazing to us, the readers: avoca broccoli salad recipe. Did you get hungry?

The salad goes with an interesting dressing, but I would say, that even if you skip the dressing and simplify the salad recipe even more, still you will get an the end a pretty good broccoli salad. Why? Because the combination of these ingredients alone is proven to taste delicious. I am talking about spinach, avocado, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese… and roasted hazelnuts. Imagine those things in a big bowl. Isn’t it perfect?

The avoca broccoli salad recipe surprises me with:

  1. The way Caroline made the dressing. Usually when we make a dressing, we take a bowl, add the dressing ingredients there and stir. But here there is this really cool idea: just take a jar, fill it up with the ingredients and shake. I think you mix the flavors much better and it is very comfortable. Also if you don’t want to use the whole dressing, you just close the jar, put it in the fridge and use it later. Very clever.
  2. There is feta cheese and no Cheddar cheese in the salad. Everywhere I search for broccoli salads, I see the combination of broccoli and Cheddar cheese. Not that this a bad thing, but I really needed to get inspired with some other type of cheese. Feta matches more than perfectly the avocado, there just like a love couple. 🙂 And adding those roasted hazelnuts…I am out of words now…

Here is the original page of the avoca broccoli salad recipe, if you are interested to see the details. Take a look at the summary I just made, if you don’t want to go in details and just need the basic info.

Thanks again for letting me inspire you with my salad inspirations! See you soon. 🙂

Souplantation broccoli salad recipe from Hunterette

souplantation broccoli salad recipe

The best of the best combinations: if you don’t know it yet, take a look:

BROCCOLI-RED ONION-BACON-CHEDDAR CHEESE-RAISINS-MAYONNAISE

I have showed already lots of variations of this salad. Broccoli salad from Mr Food, Neelys broccoli salad, Souplantation broccoli salad from Cinnamon Spice & Everything nice, Pioneer Woman broccoli salad, Skinny broccoli salad from Womanista (or Skinny Mom) and many other. They all contain these or some of these ingredients. If you are a big fan of broccoli, like me, there is no way you haven’t tried at least two of the recipes. It would be just unrespectable to you as a broccoli lover. 🙂

While I was researching all kinds of broccoli salad, I came to a lady with a nickname Yumi (very promising!) and her recipe blog on Hunterette. I really liked her version of the famous broccoli bacon mayonnaise salad.

Which is the main cool thing about the Souplantation broccoli salad recipe from Yumi?

The very, very best part of her salad is the fact it is super simple and easy to make. Raw broccoli, cup of raisins, cup of cooked bacon, cup of cashews, cup of red onion and you are ready. No shredded cheese, no combinations of different types of cheese, no complicated dressing. You just add some sugar and vinegar to the mayonnaise and whisk everything together. You see, there is no need to read the recipe or watch a video. I have just explained you the whole process in two sentences. That is what I liked about the Souplantation broccoli salad recipe by Yumi.

You could of course upgrade the salad by adding more ingredients. It all depends on how much time you have, are you in the mood for cooking and preparing stuff, do you enjoy mixing foods and experimenting in the kitchen etc. I will just list the main ingredients you could add to this Souplantation broccoli salad recipe:

  1. You could add yogurt to the mayonnaise.
  2. You could whisk the mayonnaise with sour cream.
  3. You could add some Cheddar cheese to the broccoli salad.
  4. You could sprinkle baked or raw sunflower seeds on top.

Here is also the original page of the Souplantation broccoli salad.  Hope you liked the salad. I would love to read your comments. Bye bye for now, see you soon!

Broccoli raisin salad from Mr Food: а healthier version

broccoli raisin salad Mr Food

Have you seen the last version of broccoli cheese salad that I showed you? It was Neelys broccoli salad with bacon and cheese. There I talked about how popular is the combination of broccoli, bacon, cheese, red onion and mayonnaise. And I explained that there are many variations of the salad.

Now I want to bring to your attention one more version. It comes from Mr Food and surprises again with creativity. What is it this time?

Sure there are again our favorite broccoli florets, our even more favorite bacon slices, the crispy red onion and the already well known mayonnaise. But this time the focus is not on the dressing, the focus is on the veggie salad. Instead of making a dressing from mayonnaise and Greek yogurt, like it was here, or from mayonnaise and sour cream, like we saw in the Neelys broccoli salad recipe, here we don’t make a dressing. We just mix the vegetables with the mayonnaise and we add some vinegar, which gives a fresher flavor to the whole thing. There are two other interesting differences between the broccoli raisin salad from Mr Food and the other versions.

Which are the different things in the broccoli raisin salad from Mr Food?

The first one are the sunflower kernels. Sunflower kernels are a really good option, if you want to give fullness to your salad, but still keep it as healthy as possible. Sunflower kernels contain fat, so that way you could balance between the mayonnaise and those kernels. Put less mayonnaise and more sunflower kernels in your broccoli salad.

The second really interesting thing about the broccoli raisin salad from Mr Food is the process of preparing the salad. It is quite original, I think. Most of the times we cook the broccoli first, for about 30 seconds, shock them in ice and then add the rest of the ingredients. This time we leave them raw. I think this gives an extra freshness to the salad. The broccoli remain really crunchy and green, they look beautiful in the plate and don’t loose any of their vitamins and nutrition. Maybe this is the healthier version of broccoli bacon salad: with lots of raisins, less mayonnaise and more sunflower kernels.

Speaking about healthy, I think a handful of quinoa would match perfectly the salad structure and taste. What I would also do is replacing the vinegar with orange juice. Orange juice tastes amazing with bacon, you definitely have to try it. But you have to be careful not to make the broccoli salad too sweet. Don’t forget there are raisins there as well. Everything is balance, just be careful with the ingredient’s amount.

Take a look at the summary I made. Go here, if you want to see the full, original version of Mr Food broccoli raisin salad. And don’t forget to have fun! 🙂

Neelys broccoli salad with bacon and cheese

neelys broccoli salad with bacon

I think one of the most proved and established salad combinations is:

  • broccoli
  • bacon
  • red onion
  • mayonnaise

I have noticed it while I was searching for new broccoli salad ideas. Why is this combination so popular? Really…Why don’t they mix broccoli with chicken pieces for example? Why is the bacon? And why do they always add red and not for example green onion? And why the mayonnaise dressing? Why not soy sauce?

So many questions and one answer. Why? Because it tastes GREAT. 🙂 If you try this heavenly mix you will understand why it is red onion, why it is mayonnaise…I really advise you to stick with these ingredients in order to achieve exactly this explosion of flavors. The taste is so specific and unforgettable, it lasts in your mouth, not just the taste, but the whole experience. You want to eat an unforgettable salad? THIS is the salad.

I guess I already showed you some variations of broccoli bacon Cheddar cheese salad. Here is another similar recipe, but still not the same. Actually there are lots of differences in the variations. The point is to keep the basics (the main, very important ingredients, which I listed above) and then to play with the details. For example, here is Neelys broccoli salad with bacon and Cheddar cheese. Instead of yogurt they use sour cream in the dressing. They also add some celery seeds, which give the salad a delicate extra flavor.

You could add lots of things to Neelys broccoli salad. If you like it like that, take the recipe right away. See the summary I made or go directly to the original page, where you can see also a video. But if you want to challenge your creativity and make your very own and unique masterpiece, then you need to inspire yourself and add some ingredients that you consider as original and interesting. I am going to give you one idea, you could also think of creative salad ingredients:

Why don’t you add some shredded, baked sweet potato to the salad? After you whisk everything together, you just sprinkle some of the shredded red potato on top. It will look very pretty and will add a sweet flavor to the broccoli.

That was my idea. I have tried adding this to Neelys broccoli salad and the result was fantastic. So, have fun in the kitchen and write in the comment below, what happened, did you enjoy the process? 🙂

Yummy broccoli cheese salad from Mr Food

broccoli cheese salad from mr food

Mr Food always surprises me with genial ideas for salads. He just has this gift to inspire you within seconds. Maybe because of the videos he shows. Just in several minutes you get to know the particular salad so well, that you don’t need to read, print or remember the recipe.

Like this broccoli cheese salad for example. Mr Food explains everything in the video below. Which are the ingredients? You just see them in the bowl: fresh broccoli, red onion, black olives, cherry tomatoes, two kinds of cheese and dressing. You could also some bacon, but this is optional.

The dressing for the broccoli cheese salad from Mr Food is really unique. Mayonnaise and yogurt, until here nothing extraordinary, right? But then come the honey and garlic powder. I have never tried honey with mayonnaise, I’ve just never come to such a crazy idea. Actually it is logical, that mayonnaise matches honey, because mayonnaise matches yogurt and yogurt matches honey. 🙂

The broccoli cheese salad from Mr Food is suitable for big tables and celebrations. Because of its original appearance and unique flavor combinations it is really good for those occasions, when you want to surprise your guests and make them feel really special for sitting around your table.

Go to the original page of this recipe, if you want to see all the details. I am showing you the summary of the broccoli cheese salad from Mr Food.

Here are couple of my ideas for this salad, I really hope you like them:

  • You could add some chopped baked potatoes to the salad.
  • You could add some mustard to the mayonnaise yogurt dressing.
  • You could whisk the salad with some baked sunflower seeds.

Have you tried this salad? Write down in the comments your experience, what to you think matches the salad and what not? Thank you! 🙂

Souplantation broccoli salad from Cinnamon-Spice & Everything Nice

souplantation broccoli salad
If you are willing to experiment with your favorite flavors and want to combine veggies with fruit, broccoli salad is the perfect thing to start with. Broccoli is that kind of vegetable that goes perfectly well will dried cranberries and with raisins. I have seen broccoli combined also with fresh grapes. That is also an interesting combination, but if you are new in this whole game, which I call “veggie-fruit salads”, then I recommend you begin with dried fruit and nuts.
Here are some other beautiful combinations that are proven to taste super yummy:
  • Shredded carrot and pomegranate
  • Shredded carrot and shredded apple
  • Shredded carrot and orange pieces
  • Green salad and pomegranate, apple, orange, pineapple, pear.

These are just a couple of examples for pretty good mixes of veggies and fruit. Definitely try some of those, you won’t regret, I promise! 🙂

But now let’s get back to this Souplantation broccoli salad, shown by Cinnamon-Spice & Everything Nice. The photograph is just so perfectly presented, that you can fall in love with the salad without even tasting it. I think the combination of bacon, baked nuts, fruit, crunchy broccoli and fatty mayonnaise dressing couldn’t be more amazing. Most of us prefer salads, which are something more than just veggies, tossed with oil. Am I right? Adding something special to the vegetables makes a big difference. Not just you don’t leave the table hungry, but you also enjoy a really beautiful table with all these colors in the salad. This Souplantation broccoli salad is another prove, that the richer the salad is, the better it looks and the more satisfying it is for the one who eats it.

Some quinoa wouldn’t hurt this salad, I think. In my opinion quinoa goes great with broccoli and red onion. The more interesting ingredients in the Souplantation broccoli salad, the better the end-result! So really, experiment in the kitchen! Cinnamon-Spice & Everything Nice did show an amazing salad recipe, but that doesn’t mean you can’t improvise. Try to do something different from the recipe. For example: Why not adding some red pepper instead of red onion? Or why don’t you add some grilled chicken instead of the bacon? There are so many ways you can upgrade this Souplantation broccoli salad. Just do it your way and have fun!

I made a quick summary of the recipe, so that you can see the very basics. Don’t forget to visit the original page, which I linked somewhere above in order to find more detailed information.

Pioneer woman broccoli salad with bacon and carrots

broccoli salad pioneer woman, carrots, bacon

Here is something very fresh: an easy and delicious salad that is healthy as well. I am talking about Pioneer woman broccoli salad. Maybe you think it is not as healthy as I say because it contains bacon…And not just that. There is this yummy dressing, made of mayonnaise and yogurt. So, this broccoli salad isn’t skinny for sure, but healthy? In a way, yes. Although there are bacon pieces and mayonnaise dressing in it, it contains lots of veggies like broccoli, carrots, red onion and also raisins. The dressing is not just made of mayonnaise, there are yogurt and orange as well, so I think the whole Pioneer woman broccoli salad is balanced and not too fatty.

After all, there are two tablespoons of mayonnaise in the dressing, which covers 6 servings of salad. One tablespoon for 3 servings, that is 1/3 of a tablespoon for a serving. When you think of the salad that way you understand that is is actually more a diet meal than a rich in calories and filling dish.

It takes about 20 minutes to prepare the broccoli salad. If you keep cooked broccoli in your fridge, I would say you need no more than 15 minutes. Quick and simple recipe, I am loving it. Thank you, Pioneer Woman!

If you want to see the video of the broccoli bacon salad recipe, visit the original page. There is also the full version with the exact ingredient amount and all little details, which are also important for the final result. And if you are interested in the author of this amazing broccoli salad, take a look here.

What I would maybe add to this salad is cauliflower. When it is grilled and combined with some grilled cheese, it makes the salad more crunchy and adds an interesting flavor. Corn would also fit very well to this veggie combination. These are my ideas for upgrading the salad. Tell me if you have tried it and have some other suggestion. Feel free to express your opinion in the comments below!

Skinny broccoli salad recipe from Womanista

skinny broccoli salad recipe from skinny mom

If you liked Mr Food broccoli salad with bacon and Cheddar cheese, which I showed you some days ago, maybe you will also like this one. It is something similar, but with one very big difference: it is a diet thing! 😉 Much lighter that the first one, perfect for people who want to loose some weight.

Instead of rich, sweet mayonnaise sauce this skinny broccoli salad includes yogurt dressing, which is a much lighter version. No bacon here, just the Cheddar cheese. Also, in this version there are more veggies, so you can be sure you are eating a salad and not a main meal.

BUT although this skinny broccoli salad recipe is suitable for people eating healthy, I would’t say it is better than Mr Food broccoli salad. Both are very delicious and interesting as well. So, let’s get now in details about this beauty, which I am showing you right now.

As you may noticed, the recipe comes from Womanista (the ones Skinny Mom:)). What I really like about their recipes is that the nutrition information is based on professional calculations, made by Registered Dietitian. So you can be really sure, that is all correct. Also the photography is quite amazing. When you scroll down the recipe and take a look at the many photos included, you start to feel very hungry. 🙂

The pretty look is actually the next thing I loved about this skinny broccoli salad. So many colors are playing in the bowl, that you could motivate even a child, that hates broccoli, to have a bite. Very fresh combination, including red, green, white.

What I would maybe add to the salad is shredded carrot. I just want to see some orange between the reds and greens. Also and egg would fit quite nicely, but it will make it a little bit more heavy.

Actually I don’t come to any other ideas for upgrading this skinny broccoli salad. It is just too perfect to be changed in any way. Congratulations, Womanista! You showed us a pretty looking, simple and tasty salad!

Try it, if you like it. Go to the original skinny broccoli salad recipe, if you need to see more exact information about the ingredient’s amount and nutrition.

Mr Food broccoli salad with cauliflower and bacon

broccoli salad with cauliflower and cheese from mr food

Mr Food knows best. How to make an interesting and very, very, I mean VERY delicious broccoli salad? Here is the answer. Mr Food explains the whole process of preparing an unforgettable flavor explosion that will not jut fill you up, but also will satisfy your thirst for pretty looking food. But I think the power of this broccoli cauliflower salad really comes from the taste. Just imagine these things in a large bowl:

  • broccoli
  • cauliflower
  • red onion
  • Cheddar cheese
  • smoked bacon
  • sweet mayonnaise sauce

Now you know why Mr Food broccoli salad is so special. The mix of fresh crunchy veggies, Cheddar cheese and smoked bacon speaks for itself. But tossing this masterpiece in a delicious mayonnaise sauce with a sweet note and leaving it to absorb all the taste from that dressing, that is the very special part of the salad.

This broccoli cauliflower salad is one of those salads, when you “think” you are eating a salad, but actually you are eating a rich in calories and heavy main meal. So, if you are on a diet right now, please skip this article, don’t tease yourself with such a recipe! Go to any page, showing a light salad, like this cucumber summer squash salad for example. 🙂 After your diet is done, come back here and take a look how to make Mr Food broccoli salad with cauliflower and bacon. Patient, everything is patient, girl! 🙂

What I definitely loved about this recipe were the notes at the end. Reading that notes you can get a brand new idea for how to upgrade this salad even more. I am talking about the raisins. It is said there, that you could add some raisins for more sweetness. (There were also other suggestions, but I liked the idea with the raisins). Really, this broccoli salad is so creative and “flexible”, you could play with the ingredients and add different new flavors.

For example I would like to see how the broccoli cauliflower salad would taste, if I add some sweet corn to it. I think it will match with the mayonnaise dressing.

I am showing you below the video of Mr Food broccoli salad. When you watch it, you won’t even have to read the recipe. 🙂 He explains and most importantly, he shows the whole cooking process.

Try the broccoli cauliflower salad at home and share your experience in the comments below. Did you do something different? Did you like the salad? Feel free to express yourself!

Neelys broccoli salad recipe: with feta cheese

neelys broccoli salad recipe with tomatoes feta cheese

One of the best combinations that you can make a salad from is broccoli and feta cheese. Not just that these two ingredients look beautiful together because of the contrast in the colors, but they also match perfectly as flavors. Actually any kind of cheese would be suitable for broccoli (you know how well blue cheese tastes with it!). Butter, cheese, cream and broccoli? Yes! 100% approved!

Enough with the classic salad combinations. Here is something not so popular as an idea: you could add arugula and cherry tomatoes to your broccoli feta cheese salad. If you think this is kind of weird, hold on. There is more. Bake the cherry tomatoes with the broccoli. That is a brave idea, right? I got it from the Neelys and from their very unique broccoli salad recipe. They bake the broccoli and the cherry tomatoes on very high degrees and for very short time and after that they toss with the fresh arugula and feta cheese. A salad that you could fall in love with!

One thing that came in my mind, when I first saw this salad recipe, was: Wouldn’t it be great, if I add some meat to it? Maybe some grilled chicken or little ham pieces…The answer is no. It wouldn’t be great. Feta cheese is a very filling food, if you combine it with meat, which is even more filling, that would be just too much for a salad. The idea of a salad after all is to eat something light and fresh before the main dish. Of course, if you want to replace the main dish with a salad, you could make the salad a little bit richer in calories. It is up to you.

My personal opinion about Neelys broccoli salad recipe is, that it is easy to prepare and very special at the same time. I will definitely put it on my list with salads, which are suitable for presenting to guests. 🙂

What I would maybe add to this pretty broccoli feta combination, is a handful of sunflower seeds, baked, not raw. They will just taste so good with the feta cheese and cherry tomatoes.

Don’t forget to visit the original page of Neelys broccoli salad recipe. My summary of the salad is just an orientation for you, but they don’t just show the detailed recipe with exact instructions, they also give you a video with the whole cooking process. That is why I adore the Neelys and their recipes!

Have fun in the kitchen and improvise. If you like the Neelys broccoli salad recipe, try it at home and write a comment below. Thanks!

Asparagus pasta salad from Running Go Real Food

asparagus pasta salad

Asparagus is one of the modern vegetables. Have you noticed that it is everywhere around us: classy restaurants, advertisements, diets, elegant tables…Most of the times it is served as a salmon or steak garnish and it looks really beautiful…

Usually I am not a big fan of modern “superfoods”, I think they are as super as the other. Each type of food has its nutrition, vitamins etc. But this food: asparagus, is something so damn delicious! Especially when it is grilled.

This asparagus pasta salad recipe comes from the food blog Running Go Real Food. Deryn, the author, shows a different use of the asparagus. It is not combined with meat or fish as usual, but with pasta. And that’s not a usual pasta – Deryn makes a beautiful salad with asparagus and zucchini noodles, which are a healthier option for all of you who adore pasta products. The salad is gluten- and oil-free, there are just so many reasons to try it.

If you want to see the full version of the recipe and the stunning photo gallery of the salad, visit the page of Running Go Real Food. Here I am just showing you a summary: which are the basic ingredients, what do you need to do in general. The photos are property of Deryn and her amazing food blog. Good job, Deryn!

[amd-zlrecipe-recipe:38]

Here are my ideas for experimenting with this delicious asparagus and pasta salad:

  • You could try to add chickpea instead of pea.
  • You could season with a lot of black pepper.
  • You could add tuna fish. I think it would taste great. (We are not talking about vegan menu, right? :))
  • You could add avocado. Avocado just fits everywhere…It is so good.

Right a comment if you have some other suggestions. The best part about salads is that you can experiment with the ingredients!

Salad with arugula and pesto from Sweet Potato Soul

pesto and arugula salad

This salad is totally crazy! Trust me, in the good way. Jenne from the food blog Sweet Potato Soul shows that healthy doesn’t mean boring. Yes. Healthy can be tasty, healthy can be filling. Isn’t it a great new, that you can enjoy delicious food, don’t feel hungry at all and at the same time be super energetic, beautiful and thin?

In order to make a salad filling and tasty you have to make it rich. Include many different types of ingredients: greens, potatoes, pumpkins, nuts, fruit, beans…the list goes on. If you make yourself a simple carrot salad with nothing but carrots, of course you will feel hungry and miserable. 🙂 But if you take a little bit more time in the kitchen and prepare yourself a rich, interesting salad, full of nutrition and vitamin, full of color and taste, there is now way you don’t start to do it every day!

Try this amazing salad with arugula and pesto (and many other cool things). See the full recipe here if you want to prepare it precisely.

Note: The photos are property of Sweet Potato Soul.

[amd-zlrecipe-recipe:41]

Here are couple of ideas for experimenting with the salad:

  • Add some baked walnuts.
  • Add some cherry tomatoes.
  • Add some shredded green apple.
  • Use spinach instead of arugula.

These are my ideas. Which are yours? Write on the comments below. 🙂

Pasta salad with chickpea and pesto from The Full Helping

DIY pesto…there is nothing tastier than that. You say you can’t do it? You don’t have a blender? Ok, go ahead and buy one. Honestly, homemade pesto is so much better than these ones in the shop. You will see the difference by yourself.

Speaking about pesto we come of course to pasta. These things go hand in hand together, they are just the most perfect combination for “flavor lovers”. No matter the type of pasta and the type of pesto. They are just well established, they match, that’s it. 🙂

Pasta salad with pesto and chickpea maybe sounds a little strange at the first moment. But don’t you dare to believe your first impression! The recipe comes from the really cool food blog, called The Full Helping. I think Gena made it, she is the one “guilty” for all that beautiful, tasty dishes. It is a gorgeous salad, suitable for people that adore pasta and still don’t want to overeat with it.

I made a summary of the salad to show you the main ingredients and the basic steps to do it. But for further information visit the original recipe page.

Try this salad at home an write a comment! Did you like it? Do you have any ideas or suggestions? You think it would taste better with black beans? I don’t know, I haven’t tried…

Note: The wonderful photos on this page are property of The Full Helping.

Second note: For this pasta salad with chickpea and pesto I think it is really important to use lemon juice. Don’t experiment with vinegar, you will mess up the wonderful salad. What you could experiment with is, in my opinion, the type of pasta. When you use vermicelli for example, you will achieve a very elegant and classy look. Also the thinner the pasta is, the stronger the taste of the pesto will be. There are many options. Just find your best combination. And don’t forget to enjoy!

Should I say: Well done, The Full Helping! Great job, amazing photos and easy recipe.

Strawberry chicken salad from PaleOMG

strawberry chicken salad

Sometimes we want to make a quick, super easy salad that takes no more than 10 minutes and no more than 3 ingredients. That actually happens most of the time…Going home after work, having plenty of duties with the family..We have to cook, play with the kids..I mean, who has the time and creativity to make a complicated and super special salad?? Chop a cabbage and two carrots and you are done! Eat!

But there are some cases when we need to prepare something really interesting. We are expecting guests, we celebrate, we want to surprise a person we love or we just have a couple of more minutes and for some reason we feel inspired…

For that kind of moments of inspiration you need exactly a salad like this, which I am going to present to you now. This is not just a strawberry chicken salad. It is actually a strawberry tomatillo chicken fajita salad. Sounds interesting and hard to accomplish? Don’t be afraid, it is really not that hard to prepare it. 🙂

The salad and the photos as well come from the food blog PaleOMG, which is a blog not just for food, but for all kinds of lifestyle themes. I recommend you take a look at it. There the author explains very detailed how much of each ingredient you need and gives you little advises. If you find this salad interesting and want to try it out, visit the origin recipe page.

Here is the summary I made:

[amd-zlrecipe-recipe:40]

These ideas came to me in order to experiment with the ingredients and achieve a different, but still very nice taste:

  • You could add pomegranate instead of strawberries.
  • You could do the same salad, but not with chicken: instead of chicken you could use grilled salmon.
  • You could add some spinach. Strawberries go great with spinach.

Do you have any other ideas? Right them on the comments. Feel free to express yourself.

Tortellini pesto chicken salad from Betty Crocker

pesto tortellini chicken salad

There are some salads that are simply B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. Really. So rich in colors, textures, flavors. Like this tortellini pesto chicken salad for example. Maybe I see it as the prettiest salad on earth right now, because it is about 12 o’clock and I am filling so damn hungry…But just look at it! It has everything your body needs: pasta, meat, fresh vegetables, filling, juicy, tasty sauce from mayonnaise, pesto and buttermilk…These are the best salads, they don’t leave you hungry after you eat them.

I saw this recipe on Betty Crocker – a very cool website, full of kitchen masterpieces. It is suitable, if you are having guests or just want to surprise you family on lunch. You put it in the middle of the table, everybody stares at it with an open mouth and THEN you mix it. Don’t stir before showing it to your people! 🙂 Why have you done all these seven layers? Somebody has to see this beauty, right?

This tortellini pesto chicken salad is a perfect idea for combining beautiful colors in your plate. Try to eat like this – mixing green with red, yellow, orange etc. The many colors in your meal are an indicator for healthy, fresh meal. More colors, better meal!

Here you can see the original, full recipe of the salad. I made a quick summary with the basic steps.

[amd-zlrecipe-recipe:46]

Betty Crocker shows the best version of a tortellini pesto chicken salad. Honestly I don’t have many ideas about upgrading the salad. It seems perfect to me. The sauce is amazing. The salad is rich. Maybe I could give one idea:

Instead of peas you could add chickpeas. But the salad would lose its “rainbow” look that way. So with peas it is actually better. 🙂 Well done, Betty Crocker! You have made the best salad ever!

Mango walnut salad from Green Kitchen Stories

mango walnut salad

Since I love Green Kitchen Stories I want to inspire you with one of their salad recipes. Do you think mango and walnut go well together? Absolutely yes! Basically most of the fruit are very tasty when they are combined with nuts. But it is not enough to just mix a banana with some peanuts for example. You should always try to give the salad some uniqueness, I call it a spirit. In this case Green Kitchen Stories have put their whole imagination and creativity. The mango walnut salad they present is a sweet combination of fresh colors and an explosion of flavors. The most interesting thing about this salad is the walnut dressing, I think. I have never come to the idea of making a walnut dressing, it is very original.

The beautiful photo of the salad is taken by Green Kitchen Stories. If you want to see the whole recipe, just go to their page.

Have fun in the kitchen and experiment! I am sure you will make a salad masterpiece!

Asian chicken salad from Recipe Girl

amazing asian chicken salad

It is easy to cook. What is the golden rule? Just cook simple. Combine ingredients that you love to eat and there will be no reason for hesitation – your recipe is going to work!

That is why I simply adore the recipe, which I am going to show you now. It is really easy, quick and the end-result is…yummy. Lori Lange from Recipe Girl has made an amazing Asian chicken salad. Just take a look at the ingredients and you will see: there is no risk to make a mistake here. The ingredients themselves are super delicious. Where to start from? Chicken breasts? Who doesn’t like to eat them… (Except all vegetarian and vegan people, but they would’t come to this page anyway :)) Continuing with some fresh, tasty vegetables and going to the special part of the recipe – peanuts! Ok…now I feel really hungry!

Maybe you think that is all what this Asian chicken salad is about: chicken, peanuts and vegetables. But hold on till I come to the dressing. Lori Lange has created a super tasty dressing from honey, peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice and cayenne pepper. I wouldn’t recommend this dressing if you are on a diet. It is definitely not a diet thing, especially when it comes with a heavy chicken salad with peanuts. But if you are NEVER on a diet like me, go ahead and try it out! Just eat it instead of lunch and go jogging after that. 🙂

I made a summary of the original recipe from Recipe Girl. Below I give you some ideas about ingredients that would match this salad very well.

Enjoy and have fun with this pretty Asian chicken salad!

[amd-zlrecipe-recipe:43]

There are many ideas for “playing” with this recipe. Here I share with you a couple of them:

  • For green veggies you could use spinach and peas (or maybe broccoli).
  • Instead of carrots you could add some sweet potatoes.
  • You could replace the peanuts with Brazil nuts. I think it will taste great.

What are your suggestions? Write in the comment below!

Cucumber pomelo salad with tuna fish

cucumber tuna fish salad with pomelo

Everybody has his very favorite salads. Some people like traditional salads, other prefer to experiment and create strange, but interesting stuff.

Speaking about favorite salads, here is one of my top of the top! Seriously. This is my favorite salad. The second one is the pomegranate carrot spinach salad. But this is the first one. The mix of pomelo, tuna fish, cucumber and iceberg (or green salad) has an unbelievable taste. Actually the original recipe for this salad includes also corn. What you could also add to it is black olives. Trust me, you won’t regret!

This is one of the salads that seem to be a little bit weird. If you serve it to your guests, maybe some of them will look kind of skeptical. It is just because the salad is so interesting. Nothing traditional, it goes beyond the “normal” ideas for salad. Everybody knows that cabbage goes great with carrots. Everybody knows that tomatoes go great with cucumbers. Everybody knows that green salad goes great with eggs. But who would guess that pomelo and tuna fish would be such a great couple? And it is not just them. All the ingredients of this cucumber pomelo salad with tuna fish are an important part of the recipe. And I would also highly recommend you try out the version with the corn and black olives. Everyone deserves to taste something so good!

Maybe you are asking yourself, could you replace the tuna fish with some other kind of meat: salmon, chicken? Well, you could and you will get also a nice result. Pomelo matches almost all kinds of meat (just like the orange, plum, apple). BUT the original recipe is with tuna fish, because this combination is absolutely unique and perfect.

Now take a look at the recipe of this salad. You could “play” with the ingredient’s amount. Maybe you are a big fan of pomelo? Ok, great! Then chop some more of it into the salad! Don’t be afraid it will get to “fruity”. If that is the way you like, what should you be afraid of? 🙂 Or maybe you want the salad to be lighter, because you are on a diet…(oh, no, again? :)). Then just focus on the cucumber.

What I am trying to say is: make the salad the way you like it. I am giving you the basics, the idea, the inspiration. You are the one in the kitchen and the one, who is eating it at the end! I already made mine!

So, enjoy this amazing cucumber pomelo salad with tuna fish!

Cucumber summer squash salad with cheese

beautiful cucumber summer squash salad with white cheese

Usually when you hear the word SALAD you think of a bowl, full of chopped pieces from different vegetables, mixed into a colorful combination. That is not what you are going to see today…I chose to show you something different. You may even think this is not a salad. Because it looks like…I don’t know, it just doesn’t look like a salad. 🙂 And let me tell you: I love it! The fact, that it is so easy to make and at the same time so delicious and so original and pretty, you should try it without any doubt.

The interesting thing about the look of this cucumber summer squash salad is the color. Most of the salads look really colorful, something like a rainbow, right? But this salad surprises with a very simple look, mainly in green. You could actually mistaken the cucumber with the summer squash. I think it looks really classy.

The white color of the cheese gives a super cool ascent and also some fullness to the salad, which is any way very low on calories. You maybe know, that cucumber and summer squash contain mainly water…So, I would recommend this salad, if you are trying to loose some weight or you just want to try out some fresh and light meal. It goes great with grilled bread. So good!

Don’t be afraid to improvise. Try to add some garlic. If you bake it in the oven for about 10 minutes (important, don’t peel the garlic, when you bake it!), it will become super tasty. You could also make a dressing with some lime juice. A table spoon of soy sauce would also match this salad very well. There are so many things you could do with the cucumber summer squash salad. Sparkle some sunflower seeds to make it richer or add some shredded egg, which will go perfectly with the white cheese. I could go on like this forever: giving new ideas and suggestions. Here I will show you the basic of the salad, if you want you could create a brand new, upgraded version!

Feel free to write in the comments below, if you have made the salad and how do you find it. What do you think will make it even more pretty and delicious? I will be glad to receive a feedback from you.:)

Carrot pomegranate spinach salad with almonds

spinach carrot pomegranate almond salad recipe

Salads, which combine different types of food, are amazing. Like the carrot pomegranate spinach salad that I am going to show you right now. When you mix vegetables with fruits you get a really interesting and fresh flavor. (But not always. For example never mix banana with salty spinach…Banana and salt? No, no…just no! 🙂 )Citrus fruits are very suitable for vegetable salads. They go extremely well with greens. Try to make a salad with iceberg and pomelo, or green salad and orange. The taste is so fresh. You feel like you are eating a very rich meal, rich in vitamins.

So, in the spirit of veggie-fruit combinations and experiments I am giving you today my masterpiece: carrot pomegranate spinach salad with almonds!

If you are looking for a pretty salad, you just found it. Congratulations. 🙂 It is so colorful. The pomegranate makes it juicy and the almonds give it some fullness, so that you don’t just satisfy the appetite of your eyes, but also of your stomach. 🙂

When you have guests and you want to surprise them with an interesting and delicious salad, I would’t advise you to serve it in that particular form. What do I mean by saying “form”? Don’t serve the ingredients mixed together, because not everybody likes salads with fruits. It won’t be nice, if you leave your guests without any choice. Here is what you could do in order to make the situation flexible: Serve the mixed carrot and spinach in one plate, serve beside two small bowls: one with pomegranate seeds and one with raw almonds. Explain to your people that they could add these things to their salad, if they want. I guarantee, they will feel very happy with the freedom you give them.

Ok, let’s get now to the salad recipe. It couldn’t be more simple. Take a look at the instructions, you need 10 seconds to remember the recipe, don’t need to print it, it is just so damn easy! 🙂

Feel free to write your thoughts in the comments below. Have you tried this salad? How did you find it?

Cucumber egg salad with soy sauce

cucumber egg salad with soy sauce recipe

Here is an idea for lunch. There is no meat included, but still it is very filling. What happens when you make a combination of egg, cucumber and soy sauce? Something really tasty. Soy sauce is suitable for this salad for two reasons:

  1. Many times cucumber is included in sushi recipes (you know: cucumber, avocado, salmon, tuna fish). Sushi and soy sauce are like brother and sister. That is why it is logical that soy sauce will match a cucumber salad perfectly.
  2. Soy sauce goes great with meat. (Any kind of meat, also fish). Right now you think of juicy chicken pieces, soaked in soy sauce, right? 🙂 Eggs are an animal product and have something in common with chicken meat. That is why they taste amazingly good, covered with soy sauce.

And why is the big green salad leaf? To make the salad pop out. If you serve the salad on a white plate without the green salad leaf, it will look kind of pale and will just loose itself somewhere in all that whiteness…That is why you need a basic, something like a background. Of course, just because the green salad plays the role of decoration doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat it. 🙂 Decorate the plate and eat the decoration! You can do it at home, that is your own salad, after all…

The sesame seeds are also an important part of the game. They match perfectly with the cucumber and contrast to the soy sauce. Always focus on contrast in colors, if you want your salad to not just taste great, but also to look pretty.

If you want to make this cucumber egg salad a little bit more filling and richer, then add some peas or also chickpeas. Summer squash would also fit the structure nicely.

And here is the recipe for the salad. Take a look to remember or just print it. I think it is quite easy to remember the products, isn’t it? I would be happy to read your opinion in the comments below. Thank you!
